“ABIE’S IRISH ROSE”
“THE PERFECT PLAY” “The most nearly perfect play ever written.” Thus does George Pierce Baker, famous as the maker of plays and playwrights at Yale University, describe Anne Nichols’s “Abie’s Irish Rose,” which is now being made into a motion picture at the Paramount studio in Hollywood. “Abie” was a success because it is a perfect example of how a play should be based on situations rather than funny lines, according to Professor Baker. Baker brought his entire dramatic class from the New Haven College to witness a performance of this play in New' York City, using it as the topic for an “ideal play” lecture. Miss Nichols is herself supervising the filming of her play at the Paramount studio. Victor Fleming, maker of “The Way of All Flesh,” and many other successful film stories for Paramount, is directing. The cast includes Nancy Carrol, Charles Rogers, Jean Hersholt, Bernard Gorcey, Ida Kramer* and manv others.
