SIGN OF WATER

ONE TREE HILL BORE MEETING OF ROAD BOARD A report submitted to the One Tree Hill Road Board by its engineer, Mr. John Dawson, last evening stated that the shaft at One Tree Hill was down 51 feet. The lava flow had been pierced and the material being brought to the surface was particularly moist. A communication from the Domain Board ratified the permission already given the road board to sink the well, on certain conditions, all of which were not satisfactory to members of the board. The Hospital Board’s analysis of One Tree Hill water was held to be satisfactory, and it was agreed to send a copy of the analysis to the Department of Health. The board’s clerk, submitted that although the water trading account revealed a loss of £544. or 2.22 d a 1,009 gallons, of which £IBO was accounted for by the concessions to large consumers, sales of water were increasing steadily and it was anticipated that the debit balance would be quickly overtaken. In the meantime the loss would be met from accumulated surpluses. Mr. R. G. Clark, who presided, stated that although the board had not been in favour of the proposed Transport Commission, since hearing the Prime Minister speak of its projected activities he was sure nothing but good could come of it. In view of the Auckland Automobile Association’s decision to erect no more school . signs until alterations were made in the motor regulations, the board decided to erect any signs necessary on its own account. The Health Department forwarded a complaint that the board’s refuse dumn was in an linsa tisfactorv con-
