WHALER STRIKES BERG
C. A. LARSEN RECEIVES MESSAGE WRECK OF SOUTHERN QUEEN Press Association. INVERCARGILL. To-day. The whaler. C. A. Larsen, which is anchored at the top of Glory Harbour. frequently communicates by wireless with the Sir James Clark Ross, now close to Panama. The Sir James Clark Koss reported that the Southern Queen, 9.000 tons, has just become a total wreck, through striking an iceberg ; n South Georgia waters. As she had 43.000 barrels of oil. valued at e ver £ 200,000, and as the ship is worth about the same, the underwriters will be hard hit. The message stated that all the crew were saved by chasers. The vessel was owned by Lever Brothers, and had a Norwegian crew.
