STATE WORKERS’ ARMY ADVANCES ON HOUSE

SCENE IN CONGRESS MORE PAY DEMANDED By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. WASHINGTON, Monday. For the first time in the history of Congress several thousand Government employees stormed the House of Representatives. They demanded the passage o£ legislation to extend the annual increase in the pay of clerks and other Federal employees, which averages £SO. The demonstrators, who were led by a woman, comprised men, women, boys and girls, including negroes and whites. They nearly overwhelmed the Committee on the Civil Service which was holding a meeting about this question. The House will probably act shortly on the desired lines.—A. and N.Z.
