GRAMMAR OLD BOYS
ANNUAL MEETING SCHOLARSHIP RECORD The unprecedented achievement of Auckland Grammar School in gaining 12 university entrance scholarships out of a total of 30, was mentioned at the annual meeting of the Grammar School Old Boys’ Association last evening. It was decided toNcongratulate the board of governors. The loss to the school by the death of Mr. James Drummond, headmaster of the school, was referred to in the report. A resolution recording the association’s appreciation of his work, and sorrow at his death, was carried in silence. It was reported that the social club had been closed on account of the unsatisfactory financial position. The teams in the various football grades had experienced a- favourable year, five members of the senior clubs having obtained provincial representative honours. There was a membership of 80 in the tennis-club. If sufficient interest were shown it was proposed to arrange winter courts. It was pointed out that more support was required for the swimming club. A credit of £ 8 was shown cn the balance-sheet, as compared with £4O last year. The decrease was attributed largely to a falling-off in the membership and a loss on the annual ball. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. A. S. C. Brown; vicepresidents, Messrs. E. Creagh, A. J. Billington, A. M. Nicholson, V. N. Hubble; hon. secretary, Mr. T. S. Miller; » ommittee, Messrs. J. Stanton, A. J. Robb, S. P. Hamilton. T. S. Withers, P. Lintott, A. S. C. Belcher and W. Batty; hon. auditor. Mr. M. D. Gray; trustees. Messrs. E. E. Vaile, V. R. Meredith and Dr. E. Roberton.
