NURSE FOR ISLAND
PROVISION AT GREAT BARRIER HOSPITAL BOARD BUSINESS The question of providing a nurse for the residents rof Great Barrier Island was referred to at yesterday’s meeting of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The Great Barrier County Council wrote asking that the question of appointing a nurse at Great Barrier be deferred until further particulars could be obtained. The chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, said that the board collected £BS a year in rates from Great Barrier, collected having decreased by one-half.
The cost to the board for a nurse for the island was stated to be £250 a year, whereas the board could subsidise a qualified nurse for £ 60 a year. The applicant in question, Miss Medland, was fully qualified, and also possessed a midwifery certificate. It was resolved that a subsidy of £6O be paid to Miss Medland, the nurse to collect her own fees. AUDITOR-GENERAL’S TAGS In regard to the Auditor-General’s tags and comments in reference to ’he balance sheet, the Finance Committee reported that it thought it advisable to say as little as possible in reply, particularly as the Director-General stresses only one point, i.e., the method of purchasing supplies for the different institutions. The report further stated that as the comments “are most misleading, and in many respects incorrect, the Director-General will be communicated with personally before anything further is done.” The report was adopted.
