NEW CITY WAREHOUSE

COVERING 25,000 square feet of ground, the new threestoreyed concrete structure for the New Zealand Milk Products Company, on the corner of St. George’s Bay Road and Cleveland Road, is now well on the way toward completion. The building, which Is costing a sum running into five figures, will be used by the firm as a warehouse and office. It has a frontage to Cleveland Road of 116 ft and to St. George’s Bay Road of 172 ft.

The plans were prepared by Chilwell and Trevithick, architects, and provide for a handsome structure arranged upon the most modern lines. The contractors arc the. Fletcher Construction CornCompany. The foundations, which have been taken to a depth of an average of 25ft over the whole property, are all in, 93 concrete piers having been sunk to bear the building. A wide courtyard is located in the centre of the building for the

purpose of affording the maximum of light through the structure. When sinking the foundations the contractors came across several sewers, one of which was not known *to the Auckland City Council. There were also evidences of an old creek or river, and in some places the foundations had to go down over 30ft to strike a papa-rock bottom. The construction of the building is proceeding apace, and the boxing for the first floor is almost' 1 * completed.
