MOTOR-CYCLIST RIDES WELL
WINTON WINS AT WAIKOUAITI Press Association. DUNEDIN, Sunday. The Otago Motor Club’s motor races weer held at "VVaikouaitt Beach yesterday in glorious weather. A feature of the motor-cycle events was the riding of G. Winton (Invercargill) on a 3£ h.p. Triumph, 1927, who won the O.M.C. Championship, 12 miles, in 10 min 24 l-ssec, by li miles, and_ the President’s Handicap, six miles, in smin 43 l-ssec, by about half a mile. In the Karltane Handicap, 21 miles, he started 25sec behind scratch and 2min 25sec behind first man away. He caught the field in three laps and had a lead of 50yds when his engine seized and he had to leave Smith (Christchurch) on a Haytona Indian, to win by about 10 minutes. F. R. Cross (Timaru) was second. In the O.M.C. Championship. A. Smith (Christchurch) was third. L. H. Johnson won the first event, three miles, but burnt out his clutch in the championship and had to withdraw for the day. Smith (Christchurch) ran to Winton from scratch in the President’s Handicap. In the County Handicap, nine miles, for cars,( all Chryslers started. Result: Mrs. A. M. Robertson 1, Todd Motor Co., 2 and 3; time 9min 29 4-ssec. Dunedin Championship, 12 miles, tor cars (five starters) : C. Hamilton’s Sunbeam 1, A. Irving’s Bugatti 2; won easily in 9min 43sec. Maider’s Chrysler broke a bearing when in a good position. A Napier and an Austin pulled out after one lap.
