REPOTTING KENTIA PALMS

Many readers are nervous when they attempt to repot their choice palms, because of the thought that they may spoil them. This want of confidence is easily understood, as palms are costly things and one does not want :o lose them. The following remarks nay help: The smaller the pot the better in health do palms remain, but they •should never be left so long without repotting that they are hoisted above he surface by the pressure of the bot:om roots. It is all-important that the ;oil used for repotting be quite moist. A good plan is to thoroughly soak the oalm for one hour before attempting o knock it out of its old pot. Good loam should form the bulk of he potting compost, plenty of sharp being added, together with some eaf mould. Slightly loosen the roots that are massed together and plant palm in a pot one size larger than the old one, pressing the soil tightly round the roots. Syringing the leaves with clean water and occasionally sponging the foliage with insecticide are also aids to healthy palm growth.
