FORTY YEARS AGO

KEEPING PACE WITH THE TIMES Forty years ago—when Qtieen Street was as mean as any small town main street, when rabbits and tussock reigned over our populous suburban areas, and Auckland Province almost an unknown wilderness — what an age it seems since 1885! Between 1885 and 1928 New Zealand has grown from a small colony struggling to develop its natural resources, to - a proud self-governing Dominion, whose name and standard of life has become known throughout the world. Coincident with this growth, there has arisen a diversity of wants in our daily life, and in no department is this more clearly noticed than in the musical world. Forty years ago our fathers and grandfathers were delighted with clumsy pianos and with musical boxes, and knew nothing of even the phonograph. Now, the person of musical taste is catered for with excellent pianos, and gramophones capable of reproducing the purest tones. Radio and plaolas still further widen the field of music-lovers. But throughout the whole of that period, the house of Lewis Eady. Ltd., has been supplying the musical wants of the public of Auckland Province and other parts of New Zealand. Of later years their service has Included everything musical from grand pianos of world-famous makes to popular song hits. Ever} new development in music has been faithfully provided for the public of Auckland — the firm has kept more than abreast of the times. The well-known and popular slogan —“Everything Musical” —is no cheap catchline —Lewis Eady, Ltd., have long prided themselves that it is also a motto to live up to. In keeping with their great record of service of over 40 years, the house of Lewis Eady, Ltd., has recently built the most up-to-date music house in either Australia or New Zealand. Situated as it is right in the heart of Queen Street, next door to John Court, Ltd., it is a fitting symbol of 40 years of service and a fitting home for Auckland of "Everything Musical.” *.
