FINALS PLAYED TO-DAY MISS NEWTON WINS SINGLES Primar and secondary schols tennis championships of Auckland were continued to-day at Remuera courts. Miss Delia Newton (Technical College), the school girl who plays for Eden and Epsom’s second team, had a tussle in the lna.l of the secondary schols singles, in which she beat Miss R. Taylor (St Cuthbert’s). Playing her forehand aggressively, Miss Newton, who was last year’s runner-up, let 2—l and 5—2, but lost conldence and the set 5—7. In the next two sets, however, she showed decided superiority over a less-conldent opponent. The tennis was of good standard. B. Chalmers (Takapuna), a son of the Parnell player, C. C. Chalmers, is the lrst holder of the primary schools title. He showed a much better knowledge of strokes and court craft than .the other lads. In the final he met Cochrane (Otahuhu), who nearly won the second set, after leading 3—l and 4 —3. Results of to-day’s play: SECONDARY SCHOOLS Girls’ Singles.—Final: Miss T. D. Newton beat Miss R.
