CHECK ON DOG-RACING
BILL READ IN COMMONS By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright. LONDON, Wednesday. Mr: John Buchan, Conservative member for the Scottish Universities, introduced a dog-racing bill in the House of Commons to-day. This proposed that the owner of each new course should obtain a licence from the local authority, and that the owners of existing courses should obtain a similar licence within six months. Mr. Buchan said 154 companies were exploiting greyhound racing, and there was a danger of the tracks becoming gigantic open-air casinos. A horse race was an occasional event, but dog racing was becoming almost a daily occurrence. The bill was read a first time.—A. and N.Z.
