VARSITY STUDENTS’ BOMBSHELL
A mild sensation was sprung at the annual meeting of the Auckland Varsity Rugby Club the other night when a majority of the 130-odd present decided to replace the old club committee with a brand, spanking new personnel. ’Tis said that a “ticket” run by the exuberant junior members was the cause of the rout, which is scarcely regarded as a no-confidence vote so much as an indication of what a devastating thing a block vote can be. At the same time, the newcomers on the committee will have to settle down in earnest if they want to make as good a fist of it as did those fine stalwarts of the club, Keegan, Miller, Brooker, Olsen and others. Varsity ought to be strong this year, and in McIntosh, the ex-Scottish international, and Hindenach, an Otago representative who is completing his medical course in Auckland, they have two notable acquisitions.
