'DEBAUCH OF ILLEGALITY’

WHIST AND EUCHRE CHARGES Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. As the result of whist and euchre tournaments, five men were convicted and discharged without penalty today. In a case against a sixth man, who had distributed money to various charities, the charge was dismissed under the Justices of the Peace Act. Counsel for the last defendant said that the public had wakened up to the fact that it had been committing a perfect debauch of illegality. There was about as much stigma attached to a conviction in these cases as to a conviction for riding on the footpaths.
