Obituary

MR. HENRY BARNABY Press Association. TUAKAU, To-day. The death has occurred of Mr. Henry Barnaby, aged 86 years, one of the pioneers of the Harrisville district, Tuakau. Mr. Barnaby came from Woolwich, Kent, to New Zealand 43 years ago, being joined later by his wife and family. They were for a few months at Belmont, Pukekolie. and Mr. Barnaby then acquired an area of virgin land at Harrisville, about a mile from Tuakau. He continued farming it till about 20 years ago, when he retired and removed to a small holding nearer the town. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. The sons are Messrs. Henry Barnaby, Waiuku, and Walter Barnaby. Tuakau, and the daughters are Airs. J. Turbott, Harrisville, and Mrs. F. Woolley, Tuakau. There are 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grand-children. MR. EDWIN BAMFORD Mr. Edwin Bamford, a former Regis-trar-General of Lands, died in Auckland yesterday at the age of 82. Mr. Bamford came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Steadfast in 1851. when only five years old. He was educated in Lyttelton and Christchurch, studied law under Mr. Justice Williams and Mr. W. Sefton Moorhouse, and was admitted to the Bar in 1871. As examiner of titles under the Govern--ment, he was stationed at Napier, Blenheim, New Plymouth and Nelson. In 1893 he was transferred to Auckland as Registrar of Deeds and District Lands Registrar. Later he was appointed Registrar-General of Lands at Wellington. On his retirement in 1911 he took up his residence at Remuera. The only surviving son is Mr. Noel Bamford. of Auckland, another son. Dr. 11. D. Bamford, a barrister, having predeceased his iailv-v by some years. Mrs. Bamford died in 1924.
