NATIVE RATES
WHANGAREI SETTLEMENT (Fran i Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, To-day. To-day the Whangarei County Council decided to accept the surn of £.1.750 in full settlement of outstanding native rates, which amounted to £B,IOO. Sir Apirana Ngata. M.P., representing the Native Land Commission met the Whangarei County Council to-day to discuss the native rate ctuestion. The outstanding native rates from 1924 amount to £BIOO for which the council. Sir Apirana suggested, should accept from £1,500 to £1,700 as a settlement to date. The County Council resolved to accept £1.750 in lull settlement. Sir Apirana assured the members of the council that the money would be available early in April. , With regard to the rates for the next two years, until the Native Land Consolidation scheme becomes operative, the County Council is to make further arrangements as might be agreed upon. Sir Apirana was accompanied by Mr. IV. Cooper, field otticer for t.lie Consolidation Commission.
