Sims and Elder played a marathon three-set match in the encounter between Pukeroa and Papato&toe on Saturday. The sustained rallies had both men worn out in the later stages. Elder was carrying the day with vigorous attacking drives until his game suddenly lost its punch. After that Sims was too accurate. * * * One young lady established a novel precedent by playing without stockings. She was very young, so the suggestion that this was the serious presentation of a new style cannot be taken seriously. Miss Johnson, Ngataringa, is a very promising young player, but a persistent footfaulter with her first serve. Yet in two consecutive days of play at Stanley Street, no umpire pulled her up. * * # George, Aratonga, has a good range of shots, but might be well advised to cultivate them with greater caution. At present he goes blithely for shots that would make Borotra wince.
