GREAT SOUTH ROAD
MOTORISTS COMPLAIN DANGEROUS FOR SMALL CARS “This association owes a duty to its members to press for something to be done to the Great South Road,” said Mr. F. G. Farrell, at a meeting of the Auckland Automobile Association last evening. “It is alright for members who ride ; |in big cars, but the majority ride in small light cars, and for these the i road is really dangerous,” he said. Several other members spoke in the same strain, urging that the road be put in order. They said that throughout the South Island. and the south of the North Island, the roads were in excellent condition, but the road between Ngaruawahia and Mercer, particularly that part through Taupiri, receives practically no attention. “We are taxed up to the hilt/ said Mr. Farrell, “yet are getting practically nothing.” In view of the urgent necessity of : maintenance on the road to prevent it getting worse, the association has decided to approach the member.,* of Parliament in the districts concerned.
