WATER CONTROL
SEPARATE COMMITTEE WANTED DUAL CONTROL DISCUSSED The Water and Tramways Committee of the City Council is fairly generally of opinion that the time has arrived for the setting up of a new committee to deal with the construction of •waterworks as well as the administration. This was the trend of discussion at a meeting yesterday, and was th€*. outcome of a feeling of dissatisfaction in the committee at the rate of progress and lack of say in the committee on the works which the Water Committee has so urgently wanted. Construction work is under the Works Committee, and Cr. E. J. Phelan remarked that the Water Committee was carrying the blame for the Works Committee, which had too much to do. He thought that the work*, were finished, as far as Waitakere extensions were concerned, but every meeting they were promised for the following week, and he expected that next
meeting would see the same report. These remarks arose from a report from the city engineer which stated that the work would be completed next week. “We must not comment on the work of another committee,” remarked the chairman, Cr. J. A. C. Allum. The meeting discussed the advisability of recommending an alteration, bufc left the question open.
