In a fight for the middle-weight championship of Europe against Alex Ireland, at Edinburgh, Tommy Milligan, the holder, (vas disqualified in the ninth round for hitting low. There were 10,000 people present. Milligan, who was well ahead on points at first, floored Ireland with a body blow in the fifth round amid cries of “foul” and booing. Then, on opening the ninth round, Milligan hit low and Ireland crumpled up in agony, when Milligan was disqualified. There was renewed booing. —A. and N.Z. a
