PROMINENT IN BUSINESS
'YJZL H. R. MACKENZIE is a prominent figure in Auckland commercial and sporting circles. Born in the Auckland district, his activities have developed with the growth of the city.
The early years of Mr. Mackenzie's life were spent in farming in the Mangere district. Later he extended his activities to the city, where he has teen concerned in several big "business deals. He holds a controlling interest in the Auckland Stud Coy., is the chairman of directors of the Renown Collieries, Ltd., and holds a seat on the directorate of the New Zealand Farmers’ Fertilisers, Ltd. Mr. Mackenzie has always taken a keen interest in local body politics, and for many years was chairman of the Mangere Road Board and, later, when that body was merged with the Manukau County Council, was chairman of that body for a number of years. At the present time he occupies the chair of the Auckland Harbour Board. Always a keen sportsman, Mr. Mackenzie found outlet for his surplus energy in his younger days in football, of which game he was no mean exponent. To-day he is an ardent follower of the turf. He is on the executive of the Pakuranga Hunt Club, of which association he is past-president; a member of the New Zealand Trotting Conference executive, and president of the Otahuhu Trotting Club. At the last meeting of the latter association he was made a life member in recognition of over 20 years* services.
