BORING FOR WATER

WORK AT ONE TREE HILL DEPTH OF 30 FEET REACHED The seekers after water on the slopes of One Tree Hill have not so far met with success, but the work of digging the well, which is being put down by the One Tree Hill Road Board in the hope of tapping a strong underground stream of water, is progressing satisfactorily. A depth of over 30 feet has now’- been reached, but no trace of water has been found. The stone being excavated is of a scoria formation and blasting is not necessary, but the sides of the well have had to be timbered to prevent caving in, and this has delayed the work to some extent. It was previously estimated that the well would have to be sunk to a depth of from 50 to 100 feet before water -was found, and another 20 feet has yet to be bored before the lowest estimated depth is reached. The work will probably take about 10 days, although much depends upon the class of country encountered.
