IN WINTER S GRIP

ENGLAND SNOW-BOUND FIVE DEATHS REPORTED DRIFTS 15 FEET DEEP By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Monday. The memorable scenes of the snow blockade last Christmas have been re-enacted in many parts of England. Five deaths due to the snowfalls are reported. Scores of villages are isolated and road traffic is at a standstill. Motorcars have been left derelict deep in snow-drifts. In parts of Essex the snow-drifts are 15 feet in depth. Snowstorms raged all day long in Weshmorland, Yorkshire, Durham and Derbyshire, virtually isolating those counties. Sheep-rearing areas are suffering and scores of lambs have been lost. Snow ploughs are in operation on many of the railways. It is still intensely cold and there is every likelihood of the same weather conditions continuing for a week. —A. and N.Z.
