OLYMPIC CARNIVAL

SWIMMING CENTRE’S GALA The Auckland Swimming Centre promise to give the public of Auckland a good evening’s sport to-morrow when it will hold a carnival with the idea of raising funds to send the Olympic Games’ representatives to Amsterdam. The two ladies chosen, Misses E. Stockley, Auckland, and K. Miller, Otago, will make a personal appearance. the first public swim since their return from Australia, where they both established Australasian records and carried off all the championships they entered. Both swimmers are in excellent form and a great carnival is assured. Miss Stockley will make an attempt to lower Miss P. Hoeft’s long standing record of 74 2-5 s for the 100 metres, while Miss Miller will endeavour to make new figures for the 440yds, the record of which is 6m 8s now held by Miss G. Shand. The swimmers will also compete in the 66 2-3yds handicap, and an exhibition swim will be given. The remainder of the programme has been carefully drawn uip, and it should attract a large crowd to assist in sending the New Zealand girls to the Games.
