FASCIST MIRACLE

TYROL GERMANS MUST CHANGE NAMES By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Monday. The special correspondent in the Tyrol of the “Daily Express” says it is a strange fact that everyone who has died in the South Tyrol since October, 1927, has borne an Italian name. This was due to a Fascist “miracle.” The prefects decree that all the dead must be buried under Italian names. In certain parishes they even decree that the graves of people of bygone generations must bear Italian names. “It is easy to see the humour of such an order.” says the writer, “but it is a different matter for children who have to bury their fathers and mothers under strange, outlandish names. Tradesmen, doctors and lawyers are compelled to erase their German Christian names and replace them with Italian names.” —A. and N.Z.
