ODDFELLOWS TO CONFER

OPENING OF NEW HALL 100 DELEGATES ATTENDING There will be held this evening the opening ceremony of the fine newbuilding erected by the Auckland Lodge of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows on the corner of Hobson and Victoria Streets. A feature of the evening will be the unveiling of a portrait of Thomas Sullivan, who founded the first friendly society’s lodge in New Zealand at Nelson in 1842. From this foundation have sprung lodges all over the Hominion with a combined membership of nearly 100,000 and total funds of £3,337,000. To-morrow morning the sessions of the Auckland Provincial Lodges’ Conference will commence. Approximately 100 delegates from as far as Gisborne in the south to Hokianga in the north will be welcomed by the Heputy-Mayor of Auckland, Mr. A. J. Entrican.
