PROBLEM FOR ANGLERS
ARAPUNI LAKE UNDER DUAL CONTROL TWO LICENCES REQUIRED Anglers who are attracted by the fishing potentialities of the lake at Arapuni cannot fish with impunity over the whole of the lake unless they possess licences from the Auckland and Rotorua Acclimatisation ' Societies, as the IS-mile stretch of water above the dam is in the dual control of these two bodies. About one-third of the lake —the southern portion—is situated in the Retorua district, and a Rotorua licence is of course required to fish this area. An Auckland licence is similarly necessary if it is desired to fish the northern portion of the lake. The boundary is described in the gazette notice of the alteration and can be approximately located from the Auckland side by the Motu quarries. The boundary is 13 miles from the Auckland end of the lake, and - the quarries are in a line lying about four miles within the boundary. The Rotorua district contains the remaining eight miles of lake. This unsatisfactory position which now exists will be remedied after this season, as on August 1 next the whole of the Arapuni Lake and its surrounding streams will come within the jurisdiction of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society,' the boundaries of which will be amended with the purpose of including the Arapuni Lake and streams. During the last few months 280,000 fry have been put in the lake by the Auckland Acclimatisation Society.
