DIVORCES AT HAMILTON
HUSBAND GRANTED £750
(From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Tuesday
The full danfages claimed. £750, were awarded, and a decree nisi was granted to Albert George Williams, farmer, Kopaki, who in the Supreme Court at Hamilton yesterday sought a dissolution of his marriage with Edith May Williams, Ambrose Fraei being cited as co-respondent. Mr. E. M. Mackersey, for petitioner, said the parties were married in Gisborne in 1906. They lived together quite happily in Gisborne, Napier, Marton and latterly at Kopaki. The corespondent was a mill-worker at Kopaki, where petitioner had a farm. When the mill closed down last year co-respondent came to live with petitioner. Later, he saw his wife coming out of co-respondent’s room, and he ordered co-respondent to leave the house. He did so, but shortly afterwards respondent went away and petitioner later learned that she and corespondent were living together at Rotorua. Petitioner went to Rotorua and did his best to persuade his wife to return to him for the sake of the children, but she refused. There were nine children of the marriage, all of them girls except one, whose ages ranged from four years to 21 years.
His Honour Mr. Justice Blair said he thought petitioner’s claim was a reasonable one. The jury was only out for a brief period before finding for petitioner, as stated.
Ethel Eustage was granted a divorce from Joseph Etas tag e on the grounds of constructive desertion. Petitioner said she was married in June, 1916. They separated in 1924, since when she had not lived with her husband. She was granted the custody of the one child.
