TAKANINI TENNIS CLUB QUEEN CARNIVAL DANCE The committee and supporters of the children’s queen, in connection with the Takanini Tennis Club’s queen carnival, held a very successful dance in the Takanini Parish Hall on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance of residents of the district and also visitors from the surrounding towns. The musical portion of the evening’s entertainment was in the capable hands of the Frolic Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. S. Brooke, while Mr. A. Donaldson supplied a couple of pleasing extras. The final of the waltzing competition was held, and provided keen competition. The hon-.

Tiri Tennis Club, Devonport, played off its singles championships on Saturday afternoon. Miss Rona Dale won the women’s event by defeating Miss Fitchett, 6—4, 4 —6, 7 —5. Chas. Bailey won in the men’s singles by defeating J. Baxter, 6 —4, 4 —6, 6—4. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB Press Association . NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday. For the seventh occasion and the sixth time consecutively, C. B. Webster won the championship of the New Plymouth Tennis Club by defeating A. H. Richard yesterday, 6—4, 7 —9, 6—l, 6 —3. It was one of the closest finals for the title for several years- Since its inception in 1905, the championship has been held by only two players, J. C. Nicholson and "Webster. TE AWAMUTU CLUB A tribute was paid to the greenkeeper, and also the club’s superintendent at the conclusion of the Te Awamutu Club’s bowling tournament. The finalists (Messrs. Pilkington and Bell’s teams) intimated that there was no better bowling surface in the whole province and, perhaps, in New Zealand, than Te Awamutu’s. The way it had stood the ravages of play on the two wet days and recovered to make accurate and pleasant playing possible on the remaining days was creditable to those in charge.
