OIL DISCLOSURES
FUNDS FOR REPUBLICAN CAMPAIGNS NO END TO SENSATIONS By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Rec. 9.5 a.m. WASHINGTON, Sun. With apparently no end to sensational developments from the oil investigations, it was to-day disclosed that the Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. A. W. Mellon, admitted that Mr. W. H. Hays, ex-Postmaster-General. sent him a package in 1923 containing £IO,OOO in Liberty bonds, which was part of Mr. H. F. Sinclair’s £52,000 donation to the Republican National Committee, and asked for cash. For this reason Mr. Mellon returned them declaring them to be a dummy to cover lip the source of the funds, and instead shortly afterwards contributed £IO,OOO of his own money to the campaign committee. It is indicated that the Senate committee will call Mr. Mellon and Mr. W. M. Butler, the present chairman of the Republican National Committee, and a close friend of Mr. Coolidge, to give evidence. —A. and N.Z.
