MOTOR-CYCLE RACING
HAMILTON CLUB’S EVENTS RIDER INJURED BY FALL HAMILTON, Sunday. First-class sport was provided at the Claudelands course on Saturday by the Hamilton Motor-Cycle Club, which put on an excellent series of racing events. The five-furlong track was well grassed. About 3,000 people followed the events with tense interest. The best time was put up by W. H. Herbert, of Otahuhu, who rode round the course in 435. Norman Scott, of Hamilton, came to grief in the seventh race, breaking an arm and a leg._ Details of the " racing, were.— Claudelands - Handicap, 7 laps.—P. A. Butler, 2£ h.p. A.J.S., 40s, 1; W. H. Herbert, 35 h.p. Indian,'lss, 2; R. Ranby, 35 h.p. Indian, 15s, 3. Butler improved on his handicap and won easily. There was an exciting finish between Herbert and Ranby for second place. Twelve competitors took part. Time, 6m 4s. Novice Handicap (open), 5 laps.—A. L. McQuoid, 2£ A.J.S., scr., 1; J. W. Morris, 35 A.J.S., scr., 2; W. B. Harvie, 2£ Douglas, ss, 3. There were seven starters. The event was not spectacular. Time, 4m 22 2-ss. Hamilton Handicap (open), 10 laps.—B. Bray, 4 h.p. Douglas, 15s, 1; R. Ranby, 35 h.p. Indian, 20s, 2; W. H. Herbert, 35 h.p. Indian, 20s, 3. There were 16 starters and a well-contested race took place. Bray led all the way, and passed the finishing post with only a length to spare. Herbert ran a close third. Time, 8m 21s. LIGHT-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP Ten laps. C. Goodwin, 22 h.p. O.E.C 1 C. D. Walker, 2£ h.p. Acme 2 Blomfield, 22 h. p. Harley .. . . .. .. 3 There were seven starters. A good race was witnessed, Goodwin making a fine finish and winning the championship for the fourth time. Time, 9m 49 3-ss. WAIKATO OPEN HANDICAP Twelve laps. Spence, 22 h.p. A.J.S., 60s 1 R. Ranby, 35 h.p. Indian, 10s 2 L. G. Curtis, 7 h.p. Bitza, 55s .. . . 3 Of the 33 riders who entered for this race only seven faced the starter. Spence led all the way and won by a length. Ranby put up a splendid performance, which merited the applause he received. Time, 9m 49 3-ss. t Middle-weight Handicap, 10 laps.—W. H. Herbert, 35 h.p. Indian, 10s, 1; R. Ranby, 35 h.p. Indian, 10s, 2; B. Bray, 4 h.p. Douglas, scr., 3. The race was well contested. Herbert won by two lengths. Time, 7m 50 2-ss. President’s Handicap, 8 laps.—L. Coulthard, 22 h.p. Velocette, 40s, 1; W. H. Herbert, 35 h.p. Indian, scr., 2; B. Bray, 4 h.p. Douglas, scr., 3. About a dozen riders started. The scratch men rode well, but Coulthard won by a small margin. Time, 6m 37 3-ss. Consolation Handicap.—L. J. Crosbie, 35 h.p. Norton, 20s, 1; W. White, 2£ h.p. Rex Acme, 20s, 2; Blomfield, 2% h.p. Harley, 15s, 3. Time, 4m 7 3-ss.
