The Sydney Stadium to-night sees the inauguration of the Australian and New Zealand Boxing Champonships, when the Aucklander, Purdy, meets Jones, of Australia, for the lightweight title. The “Daily Guardian” says: “Purdy is the finest boxer Australia has seen. He displays an ability to fight with an eagerness which is making him a big draw with the crowd. He is a remarkably clever boxer and amaziingly tough.—A. and N.Z.
