PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD
FIRE-FIGHTING APPLIANCES A special meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board was held last evening, Mr. A. W. Hall presided, when the question of providing fire-fighting appliances was further considered. Superintendent Watts attended, and outlined the various necessities, contingent with a successful fire-fighting plant. Mr. Watts estimated the necessary expenditure for engine and equipment, ih the region of £1,260, in addition to which the necessary housing would have to be provided, and recommended a brigade of 12 men as sufficient for the needs of the district. The superintendent advised, that it would be necessary to have the services of one man available for driving and attending to the machine, but he would not recommend a full-time appointment, and until such time as the district was reticulated with water, he would advise the installing of tanks in various parts of the district for the supply of the water tank on the engine. He also urged the board to purchase all the necessary equipment through the association. Mr. Watts was accorded a vote of thanks. In reply he stated that when the new brigade was formed, they could have the use of the Newmarket brigade’s training shed at any time. As a result of the round-table talk, it. was decided that the special committee be asked to submit their recommendations to the next meeting of the board.
