STREET LIGHTING

COST OF RENEWALS The high cost of renewals of lamp globes in the Thames Valley Power Board district has been the subject of many complaints during the past few months. At the last meeting of the Matamata County Council the Power Board submitted a return showing the average lamp life, in hours, in various towns, to be as follows: Matamata, 1,209; Morrinsville, 1,017; Paeroa, 1,780; Waihi, 910; Putaruru, 1,025; Turua, 1,285; Tirau, 942; Ngatea, 1,400. The lower lamp life in Waihi was stated to be partly due to voltage regulation, and partly due to tUa type of lamp. In Tirau and Putaruru regulation was the chief cause, but improvement might be expected this year. Cr. Judd suggested in humorous vein that the council might put in a claim for damages. Some further pointed comments were made, but on the chairman suggesting that the new transformer at Matamata might alter matters the letter was received.
