EMPIRE PILGRIMAGE
EX-SOLDIERS TO VISIT BATTLEFIELDS N.Z. ASKED TO SEND MEN New Zealand has been asked to send 100 men to join in the Empire pilgrimage to the battlefields of France and Flanders. The suggestion has been made to the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, which asks that all names of those who propose to go be submitted to headquarters by April 15. As the R.S.A. cannot afford to send any ex-soldiers or their dependants, those making the pilgrimage will have to pay their owm fares. The sum of £2O must accompany each notification. The circular received by the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association states that it is proposed to muster 8,000 British ex-service men in London in July. They will make the journey through the battlefields of France and Flanders, terminating the tour at the Menin Gate Memorial at Yypres. The route via Canada has been suggested, and if so the Australians who make the pilgrimage will come through New Zealand.
