WAIKINO OLD BOYS

ANNUAL REUNION The annual reunion of the Waikino Old Boys’ Association was held in the public hall on Wednesday night, when the chairman, Mr. R. Shaw, presided over an attendance of over 100 members. The guests included Mr. IT. Poland, ex-M.P. for Ohinemuri; Mr. W. M. Wallnutt, Mayor of Waihi; Mr. H. M. Corbett, chairman of the Ohinemuri County Council; Mr. Hopkins, actingsuperintendent of the Waihi Gold Mining Company; Mr. G. Buchanan, director of the New Zealand Co-opr-ra-tive Dairy Company, and Mr. C. Kennedy, Piako County Council, who, during the evening, made the announcement that he would contest the Thames seat at the next Parliamentary election. Various toasts were honoured and special reference was made to the advance of farming in the district, fo*lowing on the pioneering industry of mining. In responding to the toast, “The Mining Industry,” Mr. Wallnutt predicted a bright future for Te Aroha if certain German methods of treating Te Aroha ores proved successful. He also spoke hopefully of prospects in Karangahake, an old mining centre. A splendid musical programme was submitted, songs being rendered by Messrs. E. Morgan, R. Firkin, Thompson and Griffin, and musical selections by the Firkin trio and a community sing was conducted by Mr. D. McPlier-
