GOTHIC SCORES AGAIN TRIVALVE WINS NICELY By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. MELBOURNE, Thursday. The weather was fine and cool today for the Flemington races. The attendance was satisfactory and the going was excellent. Johnny Cake was always in front in the Autumn Hurdles and won comfortably- The rider (Butler) had won the race in previous seasons on Glugo and Dalcross. in the C. M. Lloyd Stakes, Gothic was second early in the race, but took charge at the two furlongs post and won brilliantly. This is Pike’s third success in this race. Gothic’s owner, Mr. Sol Green, had scored previously with Comedy King and Gladsome. Mollison was prominent throughout and won the Ascot Vale Stakes nicely. This is his fifth successive win. Hg cost 600 guineas and has won about £ 6,700 in stakes. Mawallah was second to last early in the Autumn Handicap, but finishing fast, won narrowly. He was ridden by J. Daniels and trained by Mr. Fred Foulsham, who thus scored his second win of the afternoon. Trivalve was not extended to win the Governor’s Plate, in which Pilliewinkic gave an improving display. Tri valve has now recorded seven wins, two seconds and three thirds, and has won £26,579 in stakesThe imported mare Gallantry was second at the last half-mile of the River Handicap, but finished fast and won comfortably. She is owned by Mr. Sol Green, and was trained by the former New Zealander, Mr. Lou Robertson. RIVER HANDICAP A sweepstakes of £5 each, with £SOO added, 14 miles. GALLANTRY, 7.0 , KALLONE, 7.9 9 KLAND 7 i Seven starters. Won by two lengths tromwell was fourth. Time, 2.41 a rare record. c Promising Pacer Geo. Webb turned Patricia Bell out 111 nice trim and tne four-year-old gave a creditable display when stepped along in the second division of the Progressive Handicap. The daughter of Gold Bell —Patricia began smartly and set a merry pace for a goodly portion of the journey, but got the stitch before the post was in sight. With a bit more age the mare should do better. Mars was one of the most expenfi/ Ve - P r °P° s itions for backers at the Waikato, and his failure ira both his essays was the cause of a lot of money being lost. He was extremely unlucky in the two-mile event, receivino a big set-back when Peter Grattan fell, but at the time of the accident Peter was going just as well as the favourite, and had everything gone along smoothly the pair would no doubt have put up a big fight for the stake. •»i the mile Mars was well placed, and three furlongs from home looked a possibility, but when asked for an extra effort in the run home, the Huia Dillon gelding could not respond, and had to be content with the light end of the
