CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING

MATCH AT TAUMARUNUI The Richards Cup was the most coveted trophy at a successful clay bird shoot held by the Taumarunui Rod and Gun Club, and there was a large attendance of sportsmen and spectators. Shooting conditions were not good as the light was changeable and the “birds” were difficult to pick up against a dark background. The officials in charge of the shoot were Messrs. G. Hickton (secretary) and 11. McKay (handicapper and referee), and everything went off very satisfactorily. Mrs. G. Robinson, with the assistance of a number of other women, dispensed a welcome afternoon tea. The results of the shooting were: Sweepstake Handicap, 7 birds.—R. Harris (11yds) and W. Hughes (17yds) drew, both making the possible. Richards Cup Handicap and Sweepstake, 14 birds. —K. Kelland (10yds), H. Pawson (14yds) and . E. Liglitfoot (14yds) tied with 13 kills .and divided the sweepstake money. In the final for the cup Lightfoot won on the second bird. Gimcrack Handicap and Sweepstake, 7 birds.—E. Lightfoot, J. Richards and R. Harris tied with 6 kills, and Harris won the shoot-off, with Richards second. Sweepstake Handicap, 5 birds.—A. J. Richards (10yds), 1; K. Kelland (11yds), 2.
