End of Mau in Sight

APIA, Tuesday. THE 33 faipules ivho constitute the native Parliament, presided over by the Administrator, Sir George Richardson, ha’-e decided on legislation affecting the Samoans. The Administrator’s terms to the Mau included perto the chiefs, and the faipule in each district, to meet im nediatelv and hold a District Council to select a faipule if they were dissatisfied with the present occupant of the faipuleship; also to appoint a deputy faipule to the District Councils ::rom among the minor chiefs.

It was further decided to hold assemblies of all factions in each district in an endeavour tn bring the Samoans into unity, and then to hold a large meeting near Apia °n March 16 to terminate the Mau Movement.

The Administrator stipulated that the people of the Palauli district must apologise for their insulting conduct in Apia a month or two ago, when a demonstration was made before the Government Buildings, obscene songs were sung in public and firearms were discharged.—A. and N.Z.
