“NOBODY’S WIDOW”
BOX PLANS NOW OPEN The box plans for the new English I comedy "Nobody's Widow,” commenc- ; ing next Saturday at His Majesty’s J Theatre by arrangement with J. C. I Williamson are now open at Lewis : Eady, Ltd. The author, Avery Hopwood, has built up his story round a rather original idea —the idea of an estranged j married couple accidentally meeting at a house party at Palm Beach, after what was expected to be a permanent separation, the lady passing herself off as a widow. This chance meeting gives rise to some embarrassing incidents, the piquancy of which is emphasised by the importance of keeping the hostess ' and her friends in ignorance of the ■ couple’s relationship. The lively hostess,! bored bv the inanities of a slow-witted! devotee" induces Roxana's husband, the ! Duke of Moreland —whom she supposes! to be a bachelor—to join her at a| private supper, and Roxana, breaking j in at a compromising moment, there] follows, naturally, a mighty row. The , i "widow” refusing any explanation, her. ! husband throws off all restraint, de- ! | daring his intention of remaining with ; her all night and leaving the other ; guests to draw their own conclusions, j Eric Harrison, the distinguished English actor, plays the leading part, the "Duke of Moreland.” which he . played in the original production at the ' Lyric Theatre. London. The engage- : merit of Miss Sybil Atholwood, the charming Australian actress, and ! daughter of that fine old actor. James B. \tholwood. will be specially interj esting to Auckland theatre-patrons. - Another member of the company is j Miss Verna Bain, the premiere danseuse of Australia, and a great favourite in ! Auckland. Mr. Dan Flood, the popular ! pianologuist, is also a big favourite, | and is sure of a hearty welcome. The production of "Nobody’s Widow” is on a lavish scale; the same extensive mountings and scenery will be used as characterised the performance at J. C. Williamson's Theatre Royal, Sydney.
