CAR THIEF CAPTURED CONSTABLE’S PROMPT ACTION OFFENDER SENT TO PRISON Frank Andrew Morgan, aged 25, had luck right against him from the early hours of this morning. HE was charged at the Police Court to-day with having been intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car. With nonchalant air he pleaded not guilty, and listened listlessly to the evidence against him. Constable Doel said that he was returning from the country with a police party early this morning when he noticed a car swerve in front of them and a collision was narrowly avoided, and later investigation showed that accused, who had charge of the ear, was drunk. Another police witness described accused’s condition as • floppy." Morgan denied that he was in charge of the car. THE CAR STOLEN The Magistrate was about to impose a penalty, when Senior-Sergeant McCarthy announced that the car had been identified as one stolen last evening. Later, accused was charged with converting a car, valued at .£l5O, to his own use. The police evidence was that the car had been removed from outside a picture theatre, and the number plates were broken in order to make identification difficult. On the first charge, Morgan was fined £lO, in default one month’s imprisonment. On the second, he was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment.
