LEAGUE COUNCIL MEETS

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION SMUGGLED MACHINE GUNS By Cable..—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.30 a.m. GENEVA, Monday. The 49th meeting of the Council of the League of Nations opened with a resolution asking for information, concerning the national status of the inhabitants of mandated territories, from the countries holding such mandates. It was announced that the questions regarding Danzig had been withdrawn from the agenda paper because the parties interested were negotiating direct.

The chief problem to be dealt with by the Council is the recent illicit importation of machine-guns into Hungary. This the Little Entente's delegates affirm is not an isolated ease, but is perhaps the 10th delivery of the kind to Hungary. It is doubtful whether the Council will agree to a territorial investigation, as Germany and Italy are opposed to that course. —A. and N.Z.
