Won by Nine Wickets

AUSTRALIAN VICTORY CANTERBURY BATSMEN FAIL GRIMMETT DESTRUCTIVE Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Under excellent conditions and on a wicket which played well all day the Australian cricketers defeated Canterbury yesterday by nine wickets. Due"to the excellent bowling of Grimmett, Canterbury batting in the second innings yesterday was not impressive, the side being dismissed for 201. For the greater part of the innings they played all the bowlers except Grimmett very well, but Grimmett bad every batsman on the side scratching. Even when run-getting was at its brightest the batsmen seemed quite unable to get runs without taking risks and the slow bowler always looked like getting a wicket. AN OUTSTANDING FEATURE Those who saw him in both innings must have been impressed. There was hardly a man on the side who played him with any confidence to-day, and very few were able to score off him without taking apparent risks. The Australians made light of the task set them in their ;#'Cond innings. It took them a little over an hour to make the 103 required, but in that hour was seen some beautiful and stylish batting from Jackson, who had failed to get going in the first innings. Woodfull batted up to his reputation for soundness and he rarely failed to take advantage of the loose ball. As a stylist he did not compare with Jackson.
