There was a good struggle between I Miss Robertson and Miss Hume in the | ladies* singles. The latter was leading with 3—o in the final set, only to lose [ the next six games and the match. Good play all round won the ladies’ doubles match between Misses Hume and Batty and Misses Kerr-Taylor and Robertson. The net play of the winners was splendid. Partridge and Miss Tonks (Remuera), 65 > 6—2. HEAT AFFECTS BOROTRA TENNIS IN ADELAIDE By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. ADELAIDE, Sunday. For the international tennis matches yesterday the weather was oppressive. Borotra had an exciting game with Crawford, whose form showed considerable improvement on his previous effort. He took the first set 6—3. The second was more prolonged, and ran into 20 games. The Frenchman won, 11—9. Crawford won the deciding set decisively, 6 —2. The heat upset Borotra. Brugnon and Hopman had an excellent match, but the visitor won brilliantly, 7 —5, 6—2. Hopman extended the Frenchman, whose driving was an outstanding feature of the match. Hopman lacked confidence on his backhand. In the doubles, Patterson and Hone defeated Borotra and Boussus, 6—3, 6—2, 6—l. The terrific hitting of the Australians outclassed the visitors. In one match, when the score was s—o, deuce was called 10 times, amidst tremendous excitement.—A. and N.Z. PARNELL JUST MISSES CLOSE CALL FOR EDEN AND EPSOM ALDRED’S RATTLING DISPLAY . Two sets .formed the narrow margin by which Eden and Epsom beat Parnell in the C grade knock-out final on Saturday. With one mixed double left on the court, toward the close, Parnell led by five matches to four Deadly serving by Walton carried this match for Eden and Epsom; and on sets they just won out. The Stanley Street courts, on which the matches were played, were fast and fiery, but the tennis exhibited was generally tame stuff. Aldred put plenty of punch Into his game in defeating Hilton, who struck a bad patch Aldred, right on his game, was firstrate off the ground, and deadly in the air. His play throughout was a good deal above C grade standard. Richmond (Parnell), in the first mixed doubles was another to infuse vigour into his game. His service and backhand were very effective, and his volleying carried sting. Kishworth—Miss Miller and Wilson—M ; ss Murdoch staged good tennis, all driving hard, and striving for command at the net. TEDIOUS RALLIES The Parnell ladies won in singles that were generally marked by laborious rallies and painful lack of enterprise. Miss Wells and Miss Lamb carried a three-set encounter to 8 6 m the last stanza. Miss E. Gill was too accurate for Miss Kennedy. The winner commands nice strokes and an effective first service, and with such a foundation might be well advised to strive for greater pace. In the women’s doubles Miss „Wells showed enterprise when partnered with Miss Gill. Misses Murdoch and Dilworth (Eden and Epsom) overhauled a

long lead of I—s in their first set against Misses Miller and Katterfeldt, and romped home in the second, largely by virtue of Miss Murdoch’s good work at the net. Results (Parnell players mentioned first):— Men’s Singles.—Aldred beat Hilton, 6—2, 6—o; Gould lost to Turner, 4—6, I — 6.
