Roy Gains Place In Auckland XI.
MATCH AGAINST AUSTRALIANS NO SURPRISES IN TEAM The selection committee for the Auckland representative eleven, Messrs. E. C. Beale, G. B. Cummings and N. C. Snedden, have chosen the following players to represent Auckland against the Australians at Eden Park on March 9, 10 and 12: —- A. Anthony R. W. Rowntree E. H, Bowley H. Roy |. w. Cooper N. C. Snedden W. Hendy A. F. Weir J. Langridge G. L. Weir A. S. Player Twelfth man: A. J. Postles. There will be a feeling of disappointment among those who had hoped that the opportunity provided by the Australian match would be taken advantage of in the direction of trying out some of the younger players. With the exception of Roy, Langridge and Snedden, who will captain the side, the team is practically identical with the sides which represented Auckland in the Plunket Shield. , , . Much will depend on the two professionals (both qf whom are eligible to play in ordinary matches, but not :n the Plunket Shield); and also on how Roy is likely to fare as Matheson’s successor. He is being set a stiff test for his first representative match, but he has done so well in club matches so far that bis selection was a foregone conclusion. The side is probably as good as any that could be selected on present form, but whether or not a change in policy in view of next season’s engagements might not have been more to the advantage of the province is a question on which there ‘is room for considerable argument.
