BAY OF PLENTY LINE OPENING CEREMONY ON MARCH 28 The Bay of Plenty railway will be opened officially on March 28. Several Ministers of the Crowr. will be present, as well as many prominent railway officials, including Mr. E>. Casey, Divisional SupWntendent. North Island Railways, and Mr. J. K. Lowe, District Engineer, Auckland. Elaborate preparations are l*eing made by the Citizens’ Committee at Tauranga, and several special trains will run from different parts ol the Auckland district. The Citizens’ Committee, which met recently, has received information that trains will arrive at Tauranga from Taneatua and Waihi, and an official train will carry passengers and visitors from Hamilton. Major W. A. Bennett was appointed marshal of the procession, and prizes will be given for th« best decorated motor-car, motor-lorn-, motor-cycle and horse-drawn vehicle. There will be rowing races and a sailing race for seven-footers.
About 2,000 children from the various schools in the district will be present and a programme of sports will be held in the Domain. Several other functions, including a garden psrty, will also be held, and it is proposed to illuminate Tauranga on the night of the opening ceremony.
