Auckland Rugby Has Big Year
PROFIT OF £2,757 GAME IN SCHOOLS With a total playing strength of over 6,500 and a profit of £2,757 on last season, the Auckland Rugby Union deservedly looks back on the 1927 season as an outstanding one in the history of the union. The annual report shows that the overdraft at the beginning of the year has been wiped off, and after paying other capital items and. various appropriations, the sum of £BOO has been placed on deposit to provide funds for this season’s southern tour. A small balance is in hand with which to commence the new season. SPLENDID COMMUNITY WORK A sum of £430 was devoted to various deserving causes. During the past five years no less a sum than £4,500 has been devoted to public and philanthropic needs. As usual, the activities of the Primary Schools’ Union reveals the .remarkable growth of the game in the schools. Over one hundred teams from 41 schools took part in the school competitions, and it is estimated that from 1,600 to 2,000 boys took part in weekly matches. The record gate of the season was in the Hawke’s Bay match. It amounted to £627 ss.
