MAORI HIGH SCHOOLS

ESTABLISHMENT URGED KAIKOHE SUGGESTED Te Aute College has restricted pupils to those who hold proficiency certificates. St. Stephen's School for Maori Boys at Auckland, it is stated, will probably adopt the same course. This was pointed out by Mr. Patrick Smyth, secretary, when emphasising the necessity for establishing high schools for Maoris, at last nights meeting of Te Akarana Maori Association. Kaikohe, it was suggested, wat a suitable site for an initial school on these lines. Large numbers of Maoris reside in the neighbourhood. The establishment of training colleges for the preparation of Maori teachers was also discussed.
