NEW FORESTRY STATION
UNIVERSITY EXPERIMENTS The Hon. George Fowlds, president of the Auckland University College Council, is to open the new forestry experimental station at Swanson on Saturday, March 10. Visitors will later be conducted over the forest. The station is about 53 acres in extent and includes a large amount of virgin bush, which is to be preserved carefully to enable students to study the trees and vegetation in their natural state. A representative collection of specimen trees will be planted. The faculty is at present under a disadvantage through limited funds, but in spite of this permanent camping quarters have been erected to accommodate 20 students. Later, it is hoped to establish a laboratory for inside work. All taking the forestry course will be expected to visit the station during the holidays and weekends.
