NATIONAL

ROYAL AUSTRALIAN SUNBEAMS Commencing to-day, the Royal Australian Sunbeams will play a week’s season at the National Theatre, in conjunction with a special picture pro- ! gramme. On this occasion the stage production will be “The Wedding of Baby Doreen,” personally supervised by Miss Chrissie Royal, the well-known Australian producer. The Sunbeams are so very wellknown to Auckland amusement-lovers that any comment on their talent at this stage would be more or less superfluous. In “The Wedding” dainty Baby Doreen appears as the bride. Harry Ussher as the groom, Jackie Clarke as best man, and Gwen Jones as Cupid, the bridesmaids, trainbearers, etc., being supplied by the other members of the clever company. The performance opens with the arrival of the bridal party at the theatre, and the procession through the auditorium to the stage, where the happy couple are greeted by the guests assembled on the stage. The usual toasts are given and the whole company go through a programme of individual and concerted items.

A startling new type of dramatic art a film quite different from anything that has previously been seen on the screen—is promised from Paramount, who announces that the first screening of “Chang” in Australasia took place at the Athenaeum Theatre, Melbourne, on Saturday 28th January.
